HALLELUJAH, I’M DONE EXAMS!! Alhamdulilah, I just finished my exams on Thursday and what a time to be alive! I feel amazing and so glad that my second year of university is over! Halfway there! 😱
What better way to celebrate than with a new blogpost of course?! And this one is especially special (lol) because my girl Kaniz from Covered in Confidence has just launched her own line of hijabs!! 👏🏽😍
I met Kaniz through the blogging sphere and we bonded over our Instagram accounts! Beyond that, we often talk on Whatsapp and I love how we can talk about everything and anything! Our chats are always great and it’s been so fun getting to know her! I love it when you can talk to someone about the randomest things but also about God and Islam. It just warms my heart 💗
She had told me about how she wanted to design her own hijabs and clothes, and her dream has now become a reality, alhamdulilah! I got a sneak peak of her line and it’ll be open to you all soon! So of course, I had to snap some pictures and share my outfit with you all! I will definitely update you all about when you can have one of your own but you should definitely follow Covered in Confidence on Instagram so you won’t miss the big launch!
Her hijabs are definitely more sophisticated and perfect to dress up an outfit or for evening/formal wear! I love the simple designs with a cute touch that distinguishes them from the rest. She has a variety of soft materials and jersey hijabs! I got a white jersey hijab with a zipper trim. Totally going to confess here, I’ve always always wanted a hijab with a zipper edge, so I was super excited for this one! The zippered trim is a small yet decorative touch and it’s great to spice up any outfit!
Now I normally don’t wear jersey hijabs, so it was definitely nice to try something new and different. I thought since I was wearing a new hijab, I’d try out a new style! So please let me know what you think!
I hope you are all doing well!
Yay, School is almost done!! My last day of class is tomorrow and I’m beyond excited. Just 4 exams separate me from summer vacation! And this snowy weather 😭
This past weekend I went to a wedding, and it was the first one I attended for the 2016 wedding season! #FatsWedsDats doesn’t count, because it was 2015-2016 hehe! 😋 But speaking of #FatsWedsDats, it was her brother’s wedding, so I definitely reminisced on my #DoneDoneLondon trip! 🇬🇧
Now knowing me, you know I like to do things a little differently! The mendhi, or henna ceremony, was the first official wedding ceremony for #BilalandSamiha. As it was in the afternoon, instead of wearing an indian outfit, which is the common attire, I decided to wear this beautiful Mint/Teal dress from eShakti!
I hope you are all doing well! It’s been a busy week and weekend, and next week will be the same! The assignments are loading up and midterms are approaching. I swear we JUST got back to school 😭 I’m ready for another vacation, to be honest 😅
Today, I have an exciting blogpost, as always of course!
I’ve always seen girls rocking chiffon hijabs and I wish I could do the same! Every time I tried, I found them too slippery and I was so self-conscious about how they looked. I think my constant fussing and ‘fixing’ of my hijab actually messed up the style even more!
When I found out that Voile Chic has extra smooth chiffon hijabs, I mustered up some courage to order some! They have the most stunning colours, so it was so hard to say no. I took a leap of faith and I’m so glad I did! I really loved the two hijabs I ordered! They’re so classy and I was pleasantly surprised with how easy they are to style. And of course, the quality is amazing as well!
Voile Chic is a Canadian hijab company which sells a variety of hijabs and the related essentials! They have a variety of fabrics, but I would definitely say they are known for their Chiffon and Jersey hijabs! Their hijabs are so classy, and the colours are pretty and sophisticated. And the owner is really kind, which makes a huge impact on the customers!!
I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and winter break!
I’M BAAAACK! I just got back from London a couple days ago, and started school again yesterday, and that’s why this blogpost is late from my Sunday upload :$ It’s definitely sad to be back to reality and routine life, but alhamdulilah, always, because I had an amazing trip! It was so much fun to spend time with my family during the wedding and all of the other random activities we did! I miss it so much :'(
Of course, now that I’m back, I definitely have to share all my London adventures! I’ll be blogging my London trip in two parts – this blogpost contains all the details surrounding my cousin’s wedding, and another blogpost for the other sightseeing and fun!
The wedding consisted of 4 events – the Mendhi, the Friend’s Party, the Nikkah and Reception, and the Walima (a community dinner). I didn’t get any pics from the Walima, unfortunately 🙁
Before I begin the breakdown of the events, I had to share Zahra’s outfit from one of the family lunches. I loved her oversized and long forest green blazer! It’s so classy and modest. I loved how she kept the rest of her outfit quite neutral and added a necklace to tie it all together!
I hope you are all doing well and getting into the routine life now that school has started! I know, it’s a bummer, especially after having a 4 month summer vacation!
But before I get into more details about school, I just wanted to apologize for not posting for about 2 weeks!! It’s unacceptable and I’m so SORRY! 🙁
I’ve just been really busy preparing for school and also helping organize the Al-Wahda Sports Festival held in Toronto. Also, last week our school begun but we already had about 4 chapters of reading to do before the first day of class! And we only found out two days before, which was on the Labour Day weekend! So the stress level is already elevated :’)
Anyway! I’m in my second year of University, studying Nursing! I’m taking 7 classes (usual full course load is 5…) only because that’s how intense and jam-packed the nursing program is! My classes for this term include Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Social Determinants of Health, Anatomy of Medical Terminology, and then my Clinical Placement course, my Service learning placement course, and the Problem-Based Learning course where we analzye different care scenarios and get a more rounded approach to Nursing.
As you can tell, I’m already exhausted and I’m JUST starting my FIRST full week of school. It’s going to be a looooong semester! I figured some of you may be in the same boat, so I thought I’d share some Back-to-School Outfit ideas with you all to ease the load of getting out of bed and dressed in the morning! I think I’m going to be wearing all of these outfits this week… LOL
These outfits are suitable for the Summer-Fall transition but can definitely be adjusted to fit the climate needs of a particular day!
With all of these outfits, I am wearing a hijab from Luluwaah! Luluwaah is a proud Canadian company that prides itself in providing affordable yet quality products to its consumer. I have known the owner of Luluwaah for a very long time and she is one of the most sincere and beautiful people I have ever met! Luluwaah also donates a portion of their sales to a village in Tanzania! I love that they’re a socially responsible company as well!
Luluwaah hijabs are really nice because they’re a great material! I’m pretty sure all hijabis know the struggle of finding the perfect material for a hijab. These hijabs are a great balance between super soft, but stiff enough so they don’t fall off and stay in place all day. They don’t fuss around, which is ideal for school, because you know you’ll be good all day long!
They also have a great variety and selection of printed and solid coloured hijabs with cute accents such as tassels and lace. These frills add a little something extra to a solid hijab which are awesome to enhance a plain outfit. Luluwaah also has the most unique ombre hijabs with the prettiest colour combinations!
From the packaging of the hijabs, their website, the quality of the hijabs, and much more – I was so impressed by the attention to detail from Luluwaah. Their packaging was very elegant and made me feel so excited and honoured to be opening a package! Their website is easy to navigate and their “Blog” section gives some ideas on how to style their scarves!
The main point is to be comfortable and modest, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to wear sweatpants all the time! These outfits are all very casual, but yet put-together. I am a strong believer of the notion that the way you dress influences your mood and productivity. Even if I’m just at home but I feel as if I have a lot of work to complete – I change out of my pajamas (I know, it’s sad) and change into a shirt and jeans. This way, I’m mentally prepared for the day and getting ready helps with my efficiency.
I hope you enjoy! Check out Luluwaah on their website, follow them on Instagram, and like them Facebook!
A big thank you to my best friend Kulsoom for taking all of these cool pictures 🙂
Outfit 1: A little bit of Everything Just a little Tassel – Bubblegum hijab
This outfit plays off of various ‘basic’ elements to create a complex look. You have the black and white stripes, black and white print on the cropped cardigan, light wash jeans, and contrast solid hijab. I love mixing neutrals and basic pieces together because 1) it’s super easy to do, and 2) the final product will basically always look good!
This summer, I’ve totally been loving black and white stripes so I had to include this t-shirt in the outfit. The light wash jeans are super comfortable due to their relaxed fit, so they feel a bit like sweats! And then coral is an amazing summer colour so I had to add it in this outfit as well. The strong contrast and having the black in the outfit makes the look perfect for transitioning seasons. To be honest, I was SO totally tempted to wear my jean jacket instead, but by swapping one piece of the outfit, you can create a different look suitable for another season!
Striped t-shirt – Urban Outfitters
Cropped Cardigan – Gift
Jeans – Target
Hijab – Luluwaah (Just a little Tassel – Bubblegum)
Shoes – Target
Bag – H&M
Outfit 2: I swear it was Summer yesterday?! Lacey Affair – Azure hijab
This outfit is my salute to Summer. It says “I’m in denial that school is over”, but more importantly “Why does school have to start”. And lastly, it also says “I’m dressing as if I was on vacation (basically how I dressed all Summer)” :’)
But honestly, pants like these that are tapered but also flowy are so perfect for summer and long days! They’re lightweight and comfortable but they also make you look put together. These are my next favourite after palazzo pants but less maintenance, so they’re perfect for long school days!
I paired the printed pants with a simple black blouse (a no-brainer) and a blue lace hijab to complement the hues of blue in the pants. The lace adds a nice touch to a casual and super easy outfit!
Outfit 3: Blanket in an Outfit Glittered Ombre – Earth hijab
This outfit was especially designed for the days that you wish you could bring your blanket to school! Oversized sweaters are the way to go. Anything oversized is to be honest. There’s nothing else to say. This oversized olive cardigan/sweater screams “cozy” to me! It looks like it is made out of a light material, but it is actually pretty warm! This way, you can be snuggled up all day and if you squint and try really hard, you could pretend you’re still in bed :’)
BUT, can we just talk about how beautiful and wonderful this hijab is?!?!?!
It’s an ombre hijab with light grey, cream, brown, and burgundy! 4 total fall colours in one hijab and a little glitter to top it all off! This hijab is probably my favourite! I totally adore the other two, but this one is just SO unique and gives off a really nice vibe once layered and styled.
The slight sparkle and complexity of the hijab balances the oversized nature of the sweater and adds a hint of sophistication to the look.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Show Luluwaah (website, Instagram, and Facebook) some love as well as HijabiHeroes (Instagram and Facebook)!
You can even sign up to my mailing list to be immediately notified every time I publish a new blogpost!
Thank you all for the support, and my apologies once again for not posting for a bit! Inshallah I have some great blogposts lined up for the rest of September 🙂
Can we just take a second to digest the fact that we are already HALF WAY THROUGH Mahe Ramadhan?!?! I seriously can’t believe it! Time is flying by so fast! So happy early congratulations on the birth anniversary of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (SAWW), Imam Hassan (AS)! It really makes you think – am I really taking advantage of this Ramadhan. Inshallah, we can assess ourselves and see if we are doing what we wanted to do and changing in the way we wanted to improve ourselves. We still have 15 days to take advantage of this holy month of blessings – we got this 😉
Now that time is flying by so quickly, I don’t know about you, but I’m really thinking about Laylatul Qadr and Eid! Speaking of fancy events, I’m already hunting for the perfect outfits for these occasions! Yes, I said outfitS! I mean, there’s Eid Night, then Eid Morning Prayer, then Brunch at my cousins, and it goes on!
Hence, when I saw this gorgeous abaya from ModestWear, located in Modah, I knew it would be perfect for something Eid related! When it comes to abayas, I’m more of a simple person. I don’t like too much bling or too many colours, I like the embroidery/jewels to be black, or silver/gold, just my personal preference. This abaya has some gold detailing, but it also comes in silver! I’m also really into the batwing sleeves on abayas. They make the abaya so much comfier and flowier and I feel so light in it. And of course, this abaya is batwing sleeves :). It also has the same gold and black pattern from the neckline on the sleeves so the continuity is great.
But, what I love MOST about this abaya is that it has an asymmetrical hem line. The right side of it is all draped, so there are beautiful pleats and gathers that flow perfectly at the side. Especially with the super soft material, it just flowed so nicely. I honestly felt like royalty in this abaya! Not kidding – I might as well have been a princess from UAE because I was dressed for the part 😉
Well my name, Malikah, does mean Queen, so I guess it was meant to be?! I mean if the shoe fits, I’ll take it 😉
To finish off the look, I just wore a light brown hijab to complement the bronzy-gold on this abaya. I had to add the silver headband though hehe :$ I felt too royal not to LOL.
Don’t worry – I’m going to have an Eid guide coming to HijabiHeroes verrrrry soon inshallah! Look out for that – you’ll get Eid outfit ideas, Decor ideas, and gift ideas! So basically everything you need for Eid :))
Check out ModestWear @Modah too! They have a wide variety of abayas and kaftans! They’re all about those royal outfits eh 😉 ModestWear even hosts some of Louella‘s dresses :O I was so excited when I found out!
And of course, if you didn’t know, Modah is an islamic lifestyle store – or what I call, the all-in-one store! It’s like a department store as it houses many different islamic brands ranging from modest clothing, halal gummies and sweets, to artwork! They even have a new chai bar that I need to check out soon! 😉
Hope you like this look!
Thanks to the broski for the pictures :))
I hope you like this abaya as much I do! Can’t wait to wear it for the Laylatul Qadr/Eid nights! And of course, after Ramadhan to banquets and other fancy occasions!
This past weekend was a crazy one! On Saturday, I volunteered at the Who is Hussain Toronto Gala Dinner and on Sunday, I participated in the 4th Annual Wali ul Asr Interfaith Hussain Day Play! Both events went really well alhamdulillah!
Who is Hussain is a global initiative established to spread the message of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the last Prophet of Islam – our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW). Imam Hussain and his family sacrificed their lives for justice, truth, and integrity. He stood up against the tyrannic political leader of the time and thus saved Islam as we have it today. His compassion and trust in God’s will is astounding and he is a role model for all of humanity. Who is Hussain just launched a sector in the city of Toronto, and hence, the main representatives hosted a Gala Dinner as their first introductory event. They invited some amazing speakers such as Sheikh Usama Al-Atar and Sr. Nicole Correri and the eloquent poets Br. Ali Fadhil and Br. Nouri Sardar!
The event was well organized with a 4-course meal and all of the speakers were so insightful and inspiring! I know I definitely left motivated and encouraged to spread the message of Imam Hussain with others and further his mission for social justice!
Of course, this was a formal event, so you know I dressed up in a pretty dress 😉 As always, I had to share it with you all, as well as some of my friend’s outfits! Everyone was so well dressed and there were many #HijabiHeroes! But unfortunately, I didn’t get everyones pictures! 🙁 So sorry if I didn’t get yours 🙁
I did get a couple though so I definitely wanted to share!
For my outfit, I knew I was volunteering so I wanted to wear a maxi dress instead of a blouse and skirt because I figured looking after one piece of clothing would be easier than two lol 🙂 Also, I know it would be easier to run around trying to get everything together and I wouldn’t have to worry about my outfit messing up.
I wore my blush lace gown from Inayah Collection! I’ve done a blogpost on this dress before when I wore it to my high school graduation but I didn’t really have great pictures in that post. This time, my amazing and talented friend Azra Jessa from AZ Photography & Design took some pictures of my outfit! She was one of the photographers for the event and her pictures are so good! You can tell she is great at what she does!
With my lace gown, I knew I didn’t really need to add much to my look! It’s a classy and sophisticated piece and definitely speaks for itself. The elegant lace and modest flow of the dress is so gorgeous. It’s fully lined from head to toe, so you know you’re covered 😉
I just added a statement necklace for some sparkle (and really, I always wear statement necklaces :’) ). I wore a Dara Boutique black hijab with blush and beige flowers to tie the outfit together as it matched both the tones in the necklace with the floral lace of the dress.
