The Only Gift List You Need! – Eid Gift Ideas – All from Modah!

Hey Salaam everyone!

I hope you are doing well! Here we are, more than halfway through Ramadan and I can’t believe it! I mean, I can feel the fasts for sure, but this month is definitely flying by. Which means, Eid is around the corner!!!

I know, it’s crazy! So, to make this easier on all of us, because we all know I need the help too, I’ve compiled a list of some great Eid gift ideas. This way, you can spend less time shopping and more time making use of the little time we have left of this Holy month! Yes I know, they don’t call me HijabiHeroes for nothing 😉

This list has something for everyone – the brothers, sisters, kids, and best of all, you can get all of these things from one convenient location: Modah, in Mississauga. It’s gonna be your one stop shop for all things Eid, and you can even pick something up for yourself. Quite handy, don’t ya think.

The first item on this list *just had to be* some LaModesty hijabs of course. If you know me, you know that 75% of my hijab wardrobe is from LaModesty. From chiffon (my personal favourite), to crinkle, and even the new modals for the summer, you’ll find a hijab, and material, for everyone. Or, you could always check out Modah’s big wall of hijabs as a perfect addition to your gifts.

If you have any hipsters in your house, or just a cool guy who likes to put his best foot forward, grab some funky socks from Halal Socks, available in kids and adult sizes! In my family, my brother and my dad LOVE some crazy socks. They have the brightest and coolest patterns, so I know they would appreciate some A1 sock game for Eid namaaz.

Another family favourite in my household (like I mean this product is in everyone one of our bathrooms) and something that’s great for everyone, is Oudlux body products and soaps! I’m not even kidding, my family has tried one of each of their products, from their body creams, hand soaps, shower gel, and even body sprays. They even have conveniently packed gift sets so there’s even less hassle!

For any new mothers in your life, I saw the CUTEST onesies that say “Eid Mubarak” or “My First Eid”. I know they have a good selection and variety of designs, so you can even gift a non-Ramadan/Eid design. Modah now carries onesies from Sidra Art Boutique, which are absolutely adorable and available in many sizes!!

Now this is something I personally have my eye on, so *cough cough* *hint hint* @ Momma HH/Dad/Broski/Other Broski/SIL/anyone reading this LOL. Modah has Black Orchid products, especially their backpacks!! They are probably my favourite product from their range. This is PERFECT for any boss lady you know, like I mean it. (Can you tell I really want this as well??)

This next product is actually super useful and a beautiful gift to keep the Ramadan spirit alive – it’s a Quran touch lamp, a product exclusive to Modah. It’s a great gift to give to any family and you’ll get your share of the reward when anyone uses it, so it’s a win-win! You can play the Quran and the translation in 15 different languages. I think anyone would love to have this in their home.

If you have a kid to give a gift to, then you’re actually set. Modah has so many kids toys and educational products. I wish I was a kid again just so I could play with some of these. One toy in particular that I love are the Muslim girl/boy dolls. As a kid, I would always play with my toy dolls, but I had to realize that I look different than my doll and I would always look different

Another perfect family and home gift is some art. I know, this may be a bit tricky, because you never know what will go with someone’s home or room, but I think a cool piece of art will always find it’s place. Especially if you get a neutral Islamic art piece from Modern Art, their canvases will not disappoint and it won’t break the bank either. Or you can always get something more specific for a kids room or office space.

This next gift is quite thoughtful and unique, and definitely nice for the reflective thinkers in your life. I have used the Dua Journal before and I appreciated its layout and prompts. It’s a great journal for connecting to God through gratefulness and understanding yourself. Another journal that Modah carries is The Journal for Muslims, which is similar in its aims.

A timeless gift option for anyone and everyone is a classic watch – YA GET ME?!?! But seriously, you can’t go wrong with a North Accent watch. Speaking from personal experience, I really love these watches, especially for their quality and design. My silver stainless steel watch goes with everything and they have different styles for everyone’s taste.

And if all else fails, just pick up a cute Eid Mubarak card and some Halal Gummies (peach rings for the win) for a simple and sweet gift, literally. I mean, who doesn’t love a handwritten card? I love writing notes and cards for my friends, it’s a nice way to express how much they mean to you and that you appreciate them. The gummies are a great snack for reading the said card, but depending on the content of the card, you may want to include a pack of tissues as well.

I hope you found this blogpost helpful! But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you gift or get gifted on Eid. What’s most important is to remember each other in our duas and encourage each other to keep up all of the progress we have gained in Ramadan!

Talk to you soon,

Glittering Gown – FT. ModestWear!

Hey Salaam!

I hope you’ve all been doing well! I know it’s been a while since my last post and so much has changed in the world since then. Seasons are changing, semesters ending (THANK GOODNESS), but don’t worry, the weather in Toronto still isn’t quite Spring-ready yet. So, I guess I’m not too behind.

Speaking of behind, since I’ve been gone, I thought I’d try to work forward and try to get ahead this time! So I’m swinging straight into Ramadhan/Eid/Wedding outfit ideas! And my first post of this kind is featuring this gorgeous navy and silver kaftan from ModestWear!

Annual Ebrahim Eid Celebration 2015!

Hey everyone!

I hope you are all doing well!
Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving everyone!! I am so grateful for HijabiHeroes and all of the support I receive from you all! This whole journey has truly been a blessing, Alhamdulilah 🙂

Sorry for not posting last week! I had a midterm and assignments, and also, I was preparing for this celebration!
Just as a heads up, I will not be posting for a week or two for respect for the first 12 days of Muharram as well as midterm season! Inshallah, after the 12 days, I will have some new posts up.

Yesterday, my family hosted an Eid party to celebrate Eid ul Adha, Eid e Ghadeer, and Eid e Mubahila! This was a family (and friends) party for the ‘Ebrahim’ family! There was about 50 of us! This is our 2nd celebration and inshallah it remains an annual event!
It was so much fun so I had to share some pictures with you all!

The theme was Black and White and we requested that everyone wear some sort of black/white! EVERYONE’S outfits were on point for the theme and it looked SO CUTE! It was so nice that everyone was matching and fancy as well! And of course, we also had to decorate with black and white! We had streamers hanging from the ceiling and black, white, and polka dot balloons to add a festive touch!

We started off by reciting Surah Yaseen, and then after Maghrib salaat, we had a poem and the dinner. After dinner, we had the main part, the GAME! We always having a game that gets everyone involved so it’s really fun! After, we had some dessert and then a little family superlatives to end it off! We also had a little photo wall section so everyone could take some cute and funny pictures with our polaroid frame and props!

My cute little cousin Sahar posing with the frame <3

My cousin Zohra from London, ON came on Friday evening to spend some time with me and help us with the party prep! Well, she didn’t have much choice hahah! I’m so glad she came and it was so nice having her 🙂

Eid Party -10
She made it to the blog once again #famous :’)

As everyone arrived, we served them strawberry mojitos as a little entrance drink! (Virgin of course hehe)! It’s a mixture of strawberries, mint, and lime, topped with some Sprite! One of my friends gave me the recipe and it was a hit!
Eid Party -11

The game we played was Jeopardy! But not just any Jeopardy! Everyone was split into teams by their birthdays. Everyone had to line up in order from Jan 1 to Dec 31, without talking! Then, we split everyone into 4 teams. Each team was to chose an animal as their mascot. After they all chose, we told them that their buzzer for answering the questions was the sound that animal made! Boy, they were not expecting that! Then, each team would select one player to go up to play. The 4 players were facing the board and had to choose their question by throwing a ball at the category and point value they wanted! If you had bad aim, you got unlucky haha! #sorrynotsorry! The game was hilarious and everyone really enjoyed it!

Eid Party -5
Jeopardy board with the categories covered so no one knew about the game before we started!

We also always celebrate the October birthdays at our party. Also, it’s one of my cousins Sayyeda’s birthday on thanksgiving weekend, so we especially had to celebrate hers! We just got a cake for us all to cut and it was really nice!
We also had some other yummy desserts and everyone worked up their appetite again after a thrilling game of Jeopardy!

Eid Party -13
Even the cake was black and white :’)

Instead of just giving out our favours as everyone leaves, we have little award ceremony/family superlatives. This gives us a chance to poke fun at once person from each family and highlight our family members. This year, our favour was a Hadith Jar that we made ourselves. We put 365 hadith from our Holy Prophet (SAWW) and from our Holy Imams (AS) in a jar. The aim is that every day, as a family, they can read one hadith and learn from it. This is also reusable because you can use the same hadiths for years to come.

Okay, for the part you’ve all been waiting for….MY OUTFIT!!
I really REALLY loved how my outfit turned out alhamdulilah! I always wear maxi dresses or skirts, so this time, I wanted to do something different! I FINALLY had a chance to try out a midi skirt! I was super excited when I found this black lace midi skirt at Modah! It’s so flowy and perfect! They also had it in cream and burgundy!
I paired the midi skirt with a white lace crop top. Both of the laces were simple and elegant, so the double lace actually worked well together. I finished the outfit off with a black and white polka dot hijab and some sparkly flats!
I’m really glad I chose to go with something a little different but yet, stick to key elements that I am comfortable with. For example, I love lace and I know that I can always add a cute statement necklace to any outfit to make it more ‘me’! This way, wearing something new felt a little easier 🙂

I hope you liked this little post about our Eid Celebration! We hope all of our family and friends had a great time and alhamdulilah we all enjoyed!
Love my amazing family and I’m so thankful for them on this Thanksgiving weekend and always!

OOTD – Eid!

Hey everyone! Salaam Alaykum!

I hope you are all doing well!

(Belated) Eid Mubarak to you all! I trust you all had a wonderful Eid inshallah and may we be alive next year once again witness the holy and blessed month of Ramadhan, ameen.

Alhamdulilah, Eid was on a weekend this year, which was totally convenient for everyone! Eid became a 3 day Eid weekend celebration and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I thought I’d share some of my outfits from this busy weekend! I hope you like them 🙂

Eid Night – Friday
Ethnic Wear

As we celebrated Eid on Saturday, our Eid night/chand raat was on Friday. We went to the mosque for iftaar like always. After iftaar, we had some supplications and a prayer to recite before Eid. It was so nice to recite these duas as a community. For an entire month, you spend every night with the same people, so it only made sense to pray on Eid with them too!

Also, for Eid, as I am on the youth committee, I made Eid Grams for people to gift others with. An Eid gram is basically a box of chocolates that you can purchase to give to someone else in the mosque and then we can deliver to that person on Eid night. It was such a huge success, with around 250 orders! We got special “Eid Mubarak” stickers custom printed and we put one on all four faces of the box and then hand filled them with an assortment of yummy chocolates. People even ordered them to take to work, give to their neighbours, and even to gift to the places they volunteer at!

We got special "Eid Mubarak" stickers custom printed and we put one on all four fa
For my outfit, I wore a pakistani suit. This one is very colourful – with pink, purple, orange, and white! I love the colour combination of this outfit, as the colours are bright and fun, but also look classy! The bottoms are palazzo pants, which are definitely a plus because they’re super comfortable and fashionable as well! You could even rock this outfit without the dupatta/shawl. This outfit has a silk shawl that has a different pattern than the outfit, giving it a unique look.

I would tell you the outfit details from this look, but I got this outfit at a bazaar a while ago and I don’t even remember the name of the person/business :$ Whoops :$

Saturday – Eid Morning
Formal Maxi Dress

For Eid morning, we woke up bright and early (and I mean like 6 am :$) to get ready and get to mosque early for Eid salaat. We got to the mosque 30 minutes early and all the parking was already gone! So yeah, it’s pretty crazy! The mosque is always jaaaam packed, but it’s such a nice feeling to recite the Eid takbirs with everyone!

After Eid Salaat, at around 10:30-11:00ish, we went to my uncle’s house for an Eid brunch. Every year, there’s always brunch at this uncle’s house and we all gather together. I love breakfast and breakfast foods, so brunch is always yummy. We had some African/Indian dishes as well as some different breakfast cuisine. To highlight a few things, we had barazi (pinto beans in a coconut based curry), mandazi (african sweet bread), Lentil and vegetable bake (a new dish this year lol – it was lentils with vegetables with a light general flavour with eggs baked on top – I’m not describing it too well but it was soooooo good), fresh fruit salad, and lots and lots of sweets (indian mithai to nutella frosted brownies)! We go big, or go home 😉

I know the picture is kinda dark, but this was the fooood table!
The lentil, vegetable, and egg bake!

For my outfit, I didn’t want to wear anything super heavy because it was the morning time. Of course, I still wanted to be formal, but something more light. It’s good to wear new clothes on Eid, as per a saying from the Holy Prophet, so I decided to head over to my favourite store, Modah, and pick up a lace long sleeve maxi dress! I mean, how could I not follow the Holy Prophet’s saying 😉

I got a navy lace maxi dress from HijabiMama and wore a silver and blue statement necklace to add a little bit of sparkle. I actually wore this dress in my Eid Guide – Decor, Outfits, and Gift Ideas blog post, but I wore it with a belt. Although I love this dress with a belt, I thought I wouldn’t wear one for the morning to keep the flowy and airy nature of the dress. Also I knew I was going to have a nice hearty brunch, so didn’t want to accentuate any bad parts if you know what I’m saying 😉

I just wore a floral hijab to add some colour and my favourite nude heels!

Signature pose is always a must!
And a twirl is the second must! :’)
Had to get a cute picture with my girl Zainab <3

IMG_7611-1 IMG_7650

Had a little mini photo sesh right at the end of my uncle’s street lol!

Outfit Details:
Dress – HijabiMama
Hijab, Shoes, Necklace – Aldo
(I actually have a problem LOL – didn’t even realize it was all Aldo until now whoops :’) #sorrynotsorry)
Purse – Coach

Saturday – Eid Dinner
Maxi Skirt

After the brunch, everyone was really exhausted! We all only got a couple hours of sleep the night before and had a very hectic morning/afternoon. We came home and rested for a bit and changed as well. We then went to the cemetery in Toronto where my grandfather and grandmother are buried and went to pay a visit to all the departed souls. (Please recite a Surah Fateha for all our deceased loved ones)

After, we drove around for a bit and then headed to dinner. Ever since we came back from our trip to Iran, I’ve loved Persian food! You would’ve thought I’d be sick of it by now, but I miss it so much! Well mostly their kebabs hehe! So we decided to have some yummy iranian food for Eid dinner.

Koobideh is our family favourite <3 My dad, brother, and myself all got koobideh because we love it so much!

One of my friends gifted me this gorgeous scarf for Eid. It’s so different – it’s cream, with periwinkle and a creamsicle orange squiggles almost. I decided to wear it because she gave it to me with so much love and she was excited to see a HH outfit with it 😉 I based my entire outfit around this hijab!

I tried on a couple different looks with a cream skirt and a light blue top, but I didn’t really love them. But then, I remembered that I ordered this beautiful pleated periwinkle skirt from London! I actually wore it on Eid-ul-Adha to an Eid festival/carnival! Turns out, it matched perfectly! I wore an off-white blouse (my go to crop top blouse basically) and I loved the way the entire outfit turned out!

And my mom totally rocked my Daya Couture midi dress! It look so nice on her! :))
And yes, my mom and I totally share clothes! And shoes, and jewelry, and purses, and everything else LOL! Normally I end up taking all of her stuff and she wears my hijabs hehe! I’m pretty sure she’s already planning to take this hijab I wore and convert it into her square style! What can I say, scheming runs in the family 😉 LOL

Actually love how simple and cute this outfit is! Signature pose again :’)
Mommy! <3 She’s wearing my Daya Couture midi dress and it actually looks fabulous on her!
That twirl :’)

Outfit Details:
Hijab – Gift
White blouse – Forever 21
Skirt – Dorothy Perkins (UK)
Necklace and Shoes – Aldo (Yeah, it’s really an obsession LOL)
Purse – Coach

And there you have it, my Eid weekend in a nutshell! I hope you all also had a wonderful Eid as well! I’d love to see what you wore on Eid too! Hashtag #hijabiheroes or just tag me so I can take a look 🙂

OOTD – Feeling like a Princess – FT. ModestWear @Modah

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well!

Can we just take a second to digest the fact that we are already HALF WAY THROUGH Mahe Ramadhan?!?! I seriously can’t believe it! Time is flying by so fast! So happy early congratulations on the birth anniversary of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (SAWW), Imam Hassan (AS)! It really makes you think – am I really taking advantage of this Ramadhan. Inshallah, we can assess ourselves and see if we are doing what we wanted to do and changing in the way we wanted to improve ourselves. We still have 15 days to take advantage of this holy month of blessings – we got this 😉

Now that time is flying by so quickly, I don’t know about you, but I’m really thinking about Laylatul Qadr and Eid! Speaking of fancy events, I’m already hunting for the perfect outfits for these occasions! Yes, I said outfitS! I mean, there’s Eid Night, then Eid Morning Prayer, then Brunch at my cousins, and it goes on!

Hence, when I saw this gorgeous abaya from ModestWear, located in Modah, I knew it would be perfect for something Eid related! When it comes to abayas, I’m more of a simple person. I don’t like too much bling or too many colours, I like the embroidery/jewels to be black, or silver/gold, just my personal preference. This abaya has some gold detailing, but it also comes in silver! I’m also really into the batwing sleeves on abayas. They make the abaya so much comfier and flowier and I feel so light in it. And of course, this abaya is batwing sleeves :). It also has the same gold and black pattern from the neckline on the sleeves so the continuity is great.

But, what I love MOST about this abaya is that it has an asymmetrical hem line. The right side of it is all draped, so there are beautiful pleats and gathers that flow perfectly at the side. Especially with the super soft material, it just flowed so nicely. I honestly felt like royalty in this abaya! Not kidding – I might as well have been a princess from UAE because I was dressed for the part 😉
Well my name, Malikah, does mean Queen, so I guess it was meant to be?! I mean if the shoe fits, I’ll take it 😉

To finish off the look, I just wore a light brown hijab to complement the bronzy-gold on this abaya. I had to add the silver headband though hehe :$ I felt too royal not to LOL.

Don’t worry – I’m going to have an Eid guide coming to HijabiHeroes verrrrry soon inshallah! Look out for that – you’ll get Eid outfit ideas, Decor ideas, and gift ideas! So basically everything you need for Eid :))

Check out ModestWear @Modah too! They have a wide variety of abayas and kaftans! They’re all about those royal outfits eh 😉 ModestWear even hosts some of Louella‘s dresses :O I was so excited when I found out!
And of course, if you didn’t know, Modah is an islamic lifestyle store – or what I call, the all-in-one store! It’s like a department store as it houses many different islamic brands ranging from modest clothing, halal gummies and sweets, to artwork! They even have a new chai bar that I need to check out soon! 😉

Hope you like this look!
Thanks to the broski for the pictures :))

The wind was crazy when I took these pics!
The full look 🙂

HAHA, had to share this shot! I Swear my entire abaya flew around in the crazy wind! Hey, at least you know it’ll keep you cool :))

I hope you like this abaya as much I do! Can’t wait to wear it for the Laylatul Qadr/Eid nights! And of course, after Ramadhan to banquets and other fancy occasions!

Thanks for all the support, always <3

Happy Fasting!

Malikah 🙂
