Celebrity Fashion Inspiration – OOTD April 14 and 17

Hey Lovelies!

I hope you are all doing well!
Sorry for not posting an OOTW for this week that just passed – we had a culture show at our school so everyone was wearing cultural outfits for 2-3 days from the week hah!

But this week I decided to take outfit inspiration from celebrity fashion! Often we see celebrities walking down the red carpet in glamorous gowns that we just adore from a far or even when they are just taking a stroll around town, we wish we could mimic their style! Well, it’s not rocket science!! :))

This week is a little bit of a weird week in terms of weather here in Canada. The weekend was absolutely amazingly perfect. Sunny, gorgeous, hot (but not too hot), and the perfect amount of breeze flowing through my hijab (LOL!). But, unfortunately, this Spring weather won’t last ๐Ÿ™ Today it’s rainy and tomorrow it might snow? LIKE WHAT?!
Anyways, the biggest dilemma is that what season do we dress from – Winter with our overworn boots and cute sweaters or in bright spring colours that makes us look like an outcast with nature?! (Just kidding this isn’t the biggest dilemma but you know what I mean – #firstworldproblems :P).

Anyway, Actress Keri Russel’s (fromย Bedtime Stories and Wonder Woman)ย outfit was perfect for the confused weather! It was a perfect transition from Winter into Spring and this is a great way to incorporate some of your winter clothes into your spring/summer wardrobe! Don’t leave them out – you can still add a piece here and there so you’re always wearing all of your clothes!

Here’s her outfit – I love the colour combination! The dark purple/plum, white jeans, and beige-gray shoes go perfectly together! She even added a scarf into her look, as if she knew that us hijabis would be taking inspiration from this outfit :’)

For my outfit, I had a perfect dark purple sweater from H&M. I paired it with my white jeans, which I normally find hard to style but was definitely excited to wear them after so long, and some brown-gray jewelled loafers. I was too tired of wearing boots and I wanted to pretend that Spring really was here ๐Ÿ˜› ย Instead of wearing a brown and purple hijab, I decided to wear a more colourful hijab only because I didn’t want my version of the outfit to be too dull. This half purple-half magenta hijab is super cute and the coral trim really adds a nice pop of colour and freshness! For accessories, I just turned to my trusty Aldo watch (which, if you haven’t noticed, is the same watch with different straps haha!) and my rose gold ‘BLESSED’ bracelet from BCBG. I also just added a cognac colored satchel, which I think really works together with everything! I really liked how it all turned out :))

I know its super simple and nothing ‘amazing’ to take ‘inspiration’ from but I think its the simple outfits like these that we never think to pair together!

Yes, this was in the Target parking lot. Girls got to do what a girls got to do!

My second outfit is a mix between two very similar outfits! I have a red blazer but don’t really wear it that often anymore. My goal for this year is to really make a lot of use out of my clothes and actually wear everything! So when I saw these outfits, it was perfect for me! I love how hijabi Nicole Richie’s outfit is! (bottom right) Unfortunately, I didn’t have the wide leg jeans so I went with Jamie Chung’s straight jeans! (bottom left). I also really wanted to make a DIY for her “Celfie” shirt but unfortunately didn’t get the time as I have been studying for exams. BUT…comment down below if you’d like a DIY on graphic tees :)) I decided to go with Richie’s chiffon button down instead. Both were wearing black heels which I think would look super cute but I decided to go with flats to be more practical for school. Their outfits are literally so similar so we definitely know that this outfit will be a hit!

style2 style

Here’s my version! I also decided to wear a black and white tribal print hijab which I think sealed the outfit. And of course, can’t forget some hijab jewels too! ๐Ÿ˜‰ This gold and black chain headband compliments the gold watch and the outfit too! (just realized you can’t see the watch in the pictures but I promise I’m wearing one LOL)

Outfits of the Week! March 31-April 4

Hey everyone!

Sorry for posting this later than usual – I’m trying to start studying for my exams in May :$ But, you can always followย us on Instagram (@HijabiHeroes) to see some of our outfits on there! Plus, if you #Hijabiheroes, we’ll share your outfits too :))

This week at school we had a spirit week and today was Multicolor Day so every grade was assigned a colour to wear – ย My grade had to wear purple! I love this top because it’s so light, flowy, and fun , something I needed to lift the “Monday blues”. (I was wearing purple to get rid of the blues HAHAH get it? okay LOL).

Outfit Details: Top: Urban Planet, Jeans: H&M, Hijab: Ardene, Shoes: Aldo

Then at night, I also had an awards ceremony to attend for being a Youth Volunteer in Ontario! Alhamdulillah, it was a good program and I got to dress up which was totally why I went ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, my favourite part of the night was getting Menchies after the program, because I mean, froyo <3

Outfit Details – Dress: Charlotte Russe, Lace Jacket: Target, Hijab: Ardene, Shoes: Aldo, Bag: Juicy Couture

Today I had to stay after school til around 5:30 and I was so tired when I came home so I didn’t take a picture ๐Ÿ™ Sorry! BUT I had two outfits from Monday so that makes up for it right?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s event for the Spirit Week was Western Wednesday, and instead of just wearing plaid, I decided to take a different approach! I love these patterned ponte pants, they’re super comfortable and cute! I paired it with my denim shirt and an infinity scarf to bring it all together!

Because I just loved how nicely my watch and bracelet matched with the entire outfit! The watch is from Aldo and the “Blessed” bracelet is BCBG!
Outfit Details – Denim Shirt: Cotton On, Pants: Joe Fresh, Boots: Zara, Hijab: Ardene, Infinity Scarf: Aldo
Overview to see the outfit and accessories :))

Today I really didn’t know what to wear so I decided to go shopping early in the morning! To my mother dear’s closet of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ I borrowed this really nice long blouse from her and just decided to go simple with my favourite jeans, a magenta hijab, and then tied it all together with my favourite floral loafers ๐Ÿ™‚

Outfit Details – Top: Mom’s Closet (Costa Blanca), Jeans: Joe Fresh, Hijab: Iraq, Watch and Shoes: Aldo, Bracelet: Juicy Couture

Felt like wearing these patterned pants today and this navy blouse, but instead of wearing a plain hijab, I decided I wanted to wear a colourful one! As I was looking through my hijabs, I found this striped one that not only had a preppy look to it that matches the pants but some of the stripe colours are exactly the same as on the pants! How’d you like my pattern blocking? ๐Ÿ™‚

Outfit Details – Blouse: NyGard for Target, Pants: H&M, Hijab: Target, Shoes and Watch: Aldo, Bracelet: Forever 21

Thanks ladies! I hoped you liked my outfits from this week!
Just a heads up, this week (so starting tomorrow), my school has CultureFest so I’ll pretty much be wearing clothing from different cultures everyday! If you still want to see my outfits from this week – please let me know in the comments! ๐Ÿ™‚

Outfits of the Week! March 24-28

Hi girlies!

Hope you all had an amazing week!

I’m just gonna get straight into it! Here are my outfits from this week!!

Just like every Monday, I’m just tired and don’t want to go to school lol, plus I had a test today so I was up late – so I’m excused :P. This studded warm cardigan is literally my best friend! It is my go-to piece for any lazy day and I just wear a different (colored) shirt inside and it’s good to go :)) I just paired it with one of my newly favourite patterned hijabs that has a pastel pink with it and while I was at it, I decided to add a pink headband too to accessorize and bring it all together! Guess it wasn’t too lazy after all ๐Ÿ˜‰

Outfit Details: Hijab- Silks, Cardigan – Urban Planet, Shirt (inside) – Primark, Jeans – Joe Fresh, Boots – Zara, Headband – Charlotte Russe
Why is there still snow in late March :'( :'(
IT WAS SOOOO COLD! What I do for the blog :’)

Today’s outfit was my DIY Kimono – check out our latest post! Here’s just one more picture!

Today was another eh day because it’s somewhat of a crunch time for IB students because all of our major assessments are due Friday! The only thing I had left to do was my last chemistry lab which I already kinda started (not really LOL) so the night before I was you know, working really really hard HAHA. Anyway, like usual, I was super tired in the morning so I turned to one of my trusty black blouse shirts and wore my favourite patterned jeans – my navy polka dot ones! I wore one of my current favourite hijabs (it’s pretty much my favourite because it’s maroon lol) and batta bing batta boom – I’m ready! I’ve also started carrying my gold fossil bag to school instead of my backpack – mainly because it looks cuter with all my outfits ๐Ÿ˜‰

Close up of the jeans ๐Ÿ™‚
Outfit Details: Top – H&M, Jeans – Old Navy, Hijab – Sirens, Boots – Zara, Bag – Fossil

We didn’t have school today because the Grade 10s had to take an Ontario Literacy Test (um if you can’t read by now, we got a problem LOL) but one of my good friends and I went to downtown Toronto in the evening to the University of Toronto for a documentary showing! The documentary is called Flying Paper, it’s about the children of Gaza breaking the Guinness World Record for flying the most kites in one area at one time! It’s really cute and inspirational ๐Ÿ™‚

I really wanted to take my ootd with the downtown area in the background but we were too busy navigating ourselves around haha! It was a really great experience and we’ve taken the subway before on the weekend but boy, it was really busy on the weekday! And plus it was around rush hour! Anyway, I just came home and took my picture the way I normally do lol. I haven’t worn this black and white top in forever! I saw it at the back of my closet and as I couldn’t decided what to wear anyway, I thought I’d just wear it with my mustard cardigan. It’s funny because I haven’t worn either in a really long time (well I wore the mustard cardigan last week but that was the first time I’ve worn it in a while!). I decided to go simple with the hijab because there was already a print and a contrast colour so I didn’t want to make it too busy.

Outfit Details: Hijab: Ardene Cardigan: Zara Top: Forever 21 Jeans: H&M Boots: Aldo Watch: Aldo Bag: Fossil

Today I went to school late because I had an appointment and then the rest of the school day was pretty chill – we didn’t do anything really! I had to stay after school as I am a part of CultureFest at my school! I was super tired when I came home but I tried to be a little bit more artsy for my picture today ahah!

Outfit Details: Hijab: Hijabi Mama (check her out on Facebook!) – Got it from a Hijabi Fashion Show Blouse: Costa Blanca Jeans: Joe Fresh Boots: Zara

DIY Fashion Kimono!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all had a great start to this week!

Recently, I came across a video that was a DIY project to make a kimono. No, not an actual kimono but the one’s these girls wear nowadays ๐Ÿ˜‰ To be honest, I haven’t really come across any in the stores but then again, I haven’t looked for them, so I might have just passed one by and not realized. I did see some at CottonOn when I was in Florida though, here’s what they look like!

http://us.cottonon.com/shop/product/anja-draped-kimono-2-nepal-ikat-multi/ CottonOn ย Kimono – $29.95 USD

It’s basically a really light weight shrug that is very loose and effortless, and yet fashionable and cute at the same time. As you can see, this kimono retails for $30! Personally, I was not particularly enthused about kimonos when I saw this. But they do look really cute and I think they’re great for the spring and summer, especially for picnics or trips to the beach! They are really versatile so when I came across the video tutorial, I was like hey, might as well try it out! The best part about this DIY is that you can make your kimono out of an old scarf!! Yes that’s right, make a kimono out of a hijab – easy, fast, fun, and using things we already have at home! Upcycling – Hijabi Heroes Style ๐Ÿ˜‰

Materials you will need for this DIY:
– Maxi Rectangle Hijab
A test to see if your hijab will be long/big enough for this DIY: When you fold it half to bring the two shorter sides together,
if this length is longer than your shoulder length, then you’re good to go :))
– Needle and Thread (Thread preferably matching the colour of your hijab)
The Needle I used was pretty big – it made sewing a lot easier!!
You could use a sewing machine if you have one, but I decided to make mine by hand!
– Scissors
– Tape Measure
– Straight Pins

Sorry for the super bright picture! I made the kimono at night so the lighting was pretty bad – but I wanted you to see the beautiful pattern of the hijab as well as all the materials I used!

Here’s a basic overview of what we will be doing. It’s not as hard as it looks :))

Screen Shot 2014-03-25 at 11.38.33 AM
First off, you just have to fold you hijab as illustrated in the photo above and make sure it’s inside out!! This way, when you sew, your nice seam will be on the outside of the garment. The fold of the scarf should be at the top.

On both of your sides, measure out 60 cm using the tape measure. Mark that area with a straight pin so you know where to stop sewing. Then from the bottom, you will just sew all the way up to this pin marking. Try to sew as close as you can to the edge to make a nice crisp seam. Once you reach your 60 cm mark, just tie off your thread and you’re good to go! The opening beyond the 60 cm mark is your armhole!

This the side of my scarf!

So we’re kinda almost done! I told you this would be easy!! With your hijab still with the fold at the top, measure across the bottom of the scarf to find the middle. I also measured across the top and my hijab was slightly wider at the top, so I just averaged the two midpoints! Then I placed some pins in the middle mark to make a straight vertical line. Then, cut along this line BUT ONLY THE TOP LAYER!!ย If you cut both layers, you won’t have a back piece LOL so make sure to only cut the top layer of the hijab.

The entire scarf
Attempting an artsy picture where you can see the pins haha
My middle was 49 cm!

And now you’re pretty much done! All that’s left to do is hemming! But honestly, I am currently wearing mine to school (writing this post as I’m at lunch LOL) and I didn’t hem mine. But I will do so later on today!

For the hemming, all you have to do is fold over the rough edges from the part you just cut and then just sew the fold to prevent the edge from fraying and giving your kimono an unfinished look. Just do this on both side and you’re good to go! A really easy way to do this is to make the fold on the rough edges and iron it (make sure it’s on a low setting – ex: silk setting) so you have a nice crease to easily sew together! This will also ensure your hem is straight!

Just turn it inside out (LOL) and then your kimono is done! Mine probably took me around 15-20 minutes to make! The hijab was less than $5 so I made this for a bargain :)) $30 v.s. less than $5 ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good job, good job :’)

Mine also turned out really long because I used a super maxi hijab but you can wear it with a maxi skirt/dress or with some cute boyfriend or skinny jeans and some cute accessories! I feel like this is a piece that you can just throw on top of a simple outfit to bring everything together.

Here are some pictures of me styling it!

Outfits of the Week!

Good Morning Cuties!

I hope everyone’s had a great week!

We want to post more of our daily outfits on the blog but we thought it might be easier to just post our outfits of the week! This way, you can see a variety of outfits from what we wear to school, running errands, and just for random days! We do although, post some ootds (outfit of the days) on our Instagram, so make sure to follow us so you can stay updated with all things HijabiHeroes! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Our account is @Hijabiheroes

Monday – First day back from March Break! It was really weird to go back to school and I forgot to take a picture of my outfit! Sorry ๐Ÿ™

Tuesdayย – I bought this maxi dress when I went to Florida from Macys. I really liked the colour combination as I thought it would be great for Spring and Summer! It also has a really nice chevron pattern! While I was unpacking from my trip, ย I decided to try this dress on again! Then, as I was arranging my closet, I came across this crop top from Forever 21 that says “Love Forever”. I realized that the grey colour of the shirt (with white speckles) was the exact same shade as the dress so I put it over top! I really liked how it came out and this is a great way to utilize your maxi dresses as skirts and increase their versatility in your closet!

Outfit Details:
Maxi Dress: Macys
Top: Forever 21
Hijab: Ardene
Watch: Aldo

Wednesday – Today I wanted to be comfy and classy so I decided to go with a sweater and neutral colours for my outfit. To add a little pop, I wore this very citrusy coloured floral hijab from Target, which made me feel better about it still being so cold outside! I love basic pieces like this sweater because it’s has a design but I can pair any hijab with it, so the sweater will always look different every time I wear it. This is a way your hijab can also function as a key accessory that ties your whole look together.

Outfit Details:
Sweater – Urban Planet
Jeans – H&M
Hijab – Target
Watch – Aldo
Boots – Zara

Thursdayย – Today was a lazy day and therefore very plain outfit so I decided not to post it :$

Friday – I had a perfect outfit in mind for today! Dark Denim-cotton shirt tucked into a black maxi skirt with a coraly-salmon hijab! Maybe even a nice necklace too! I could just envision this beautiful outfit, but then Friday morning I realized that my denim shirt was in the wash ๐Ÿ™ Having to now improvise as I still wanted to wear my skirt and have a blog worthy outfit (LOL), I decided to tuck in this Jessica Simpson top into my skirt. This top is actually a shirt dress (almost up to my knees!) but hey, you can really tuck anything into a nice flowy maxi skirt! Hehe! I just paired this outfit with a pink and black floral hijab to have some pattern mixing and tie the look together!

Outfit Details:
Top: Jessica Simpson for Macys
Skirt: Target
Hijab: Urban Planet
Watch: Aldo

Saturday – I have to go run some errands and then go to an event in the early afternoon, and being me, I decided to try this navy maxi dress I just bought to see the many ways I could style it. Because Canada is slightly confused on if its Winter or Spring, I paired the dress with a mustard sweater so I’m good to go for both seasons ๐Ÿ˜‰

Outfit Details:
Maxi Dress: Target
Cardigan: Zara
Hijab: Target

Hey Girlies!

I hope you all are doing well ๐Ÿ™‚

Zainab and I have been travelling a lot lately which means cool outfits in different cities! I recently just came back from Florida for my cousin’s wedding! I’ll post about that later because this is more important! My good friend, Fatema Jaffer, has a blog called StyleByFJ! We hung out and decided we HAD to do a collaboration and share each other’s blogs! (I mean come on, two hijabi bloggers together – great ideas are bound to happen hehe ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

I’ve known Fatema for 7 years and we went to the same middle and high school! I love how we both have a passion for fashion and I know, that I LOVE LOVE LOVE her blog so I’m sure you all will too! Here’s her blog:ย http://stylebyfj.blogspot.ca

Here’s our outfits from my cousins reception! I love how her outfit is so simple yet classy! The colours are perfect for the Spring (even though it’s still winter in Canada ๐Ÿ™ )! The scenery was so beautiful, as the reception was in an outdoor pavilion so I think our outfits were perfect for the occasion!

Of course she has to do the classic HijabiHeroes Pose ๐Ÿ˜‰
She is so beautiful mashallah:)
My outfit!
The Classic HijabiHeroes Pose together ๐Ÿ˜‰ And of course, we both accessorized our hijabs because we are just so in-sync like that ;D

OOTD- Casual Blazer Friday

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

I tried something new ย yesterday and loved it!! As soon as I saw this blazer in Marshalls I automatically gravitated towards it. I love the two toned black and white because one, the black on the side is very flattering ย and two, ย it falls right into all the new trends seen of the red carpet of dichromatic right now. I chose the subtle lace top from Old Navy under because it adds detail without stealing the whole show away. Wearing a solid pink scarf is probably my personal favorite part. I usually wear a matching scarf with my outfits but this time I used it more as an accessory piece. The ballet flats from Aldo also incorporate the pink and patent leather black and pull the whole thing together.

I found this picture to show how easy it is to incorporate the black and white trend into any hijabis wardrobe. Even small accessories look so classy and fun. Keeping up with trends like these is simple because most of us are already pros at layering so the only difference is using different sets of ย colors! Never be afraid if you see trends you love on the runways to follow them in your daily outfits.

Hope you liked the outfit!!! Thanks to everyone for all their support so far, it means the world to the both of us <3. And lastly, don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @HijabiHeroes for daily hootds! ๐Ÿ™‚

OOTD – Trying Something New!

Hey lovelies!!

We said we were going to get back into the swing of things so here we are!

Here is my outfit of the day from school today! This sweater is actually my mom’s but I saw it and I said I just had to borrow it! It is a navy blue with a two-toned thread which is purple-black! It looks different in different lights but it’s super cute with a nice shape! Remember, you can update your outfits by adding pieces from your friends, sisters, cousins, and mom’s wardrobes! Have fun with it ๐Ÿ˜‰

I paired it with the printed pants from H&M and instead of going with an exactly matching hijab, I decided to change things up! I wore a hijab which is a mix between teal and hunter green! I really like it! I Paired it with a gold statement necklace which I think helped to tie in the entire look! And of course I needed boots because Canadian Winter is in full swing D’:

I hope you like the outfit ๐Ÿ™‚

OOTD: Sequined Maroon

Hey lovelies!

Here is a little formal OOTD for the winter season!

Even though it’s freezing outside, maxis are still my favorite ย choice for any special event! Personally, I’ve always thought maxi skirts and dresses are the most flattering and elegant pieces of clothing. The best part about the maxi is how versatile they are. You can easily dress it up or down by just choosing ย the right “over the top to make my outfit halal” piece of clothing like a cardigan or blazer. For this look, ย I went with the blazer over a sequined top to add pop. Maroon is my favorite color especially for those cold months, so this skirt is a go to for this season .

P.S. ย So I don’t blind on coming traffic with my shirt, I tucked it in to tone it down ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you ever have a clothing item your unsure about, pair it with something your most comfortable and confident, like your favorite pair of jeans, or in this case favorite skirt. ย Confidence is key! Most importantly, be happy and comfortable in your own skin ๐Ÿ™‚

Let us know what you think in the comments!

OOTD: Maxing out the Maxi Skirt!

Hey cuties!

Here’s a quick OOTD post, well throwback OOTD!

One of my best friends is an aspiring photographer so being the great friend I am, I thought I would help her out by being a model for a test shoot! So caring I know, because who wouldn’t love a photoshoot LOL ๐Ÿ˜‰ I tried on a couple of outfits in different locations but this outfit has got to be my favourite from the shoot!
I love love love maxi skirts because they are so versatile, stylish, and of course hijabi-friendly! I tucked in one of my button down shirts and added a pop of colour with the red blazer! The red blazer was a random buy but I think it works well on the skirt! I added a matching hijab to bring in the red and the gray, added a simple necklace, and viola! I styled this outfit after recently purchasing my first maxi skirt about a year ago. I didn’t really know how to style it but I just played around with a couple of things and I really like the final look! So there’s style tip for you all – new article of clothing you don’t know how to wear? Play dress up and see what works and what doesn’t! You may end up finding an outfit that you really love!

Maxing out the Maxi Skirt!

This look is perfect for school, work, or just adding a little formal spin on a causal flowy skirt! Super comfortable and super cute, and not to mention is really easy too!

Let us know what you think in the comments! ๐Ÿ™‚
