I hope you are all doing well and I hope my fellow Canadians enjoyed their long weekend!
This past weekend was also the annual Halal Food Fest in Toronto and it was amazing, as always of course!
For those of you who do not know, or have never been, Halal Foodie, a halal food magazine, hosts an annual food festival with all halal foods! It’s a two-day affair and it’s always jam packed. It’s been recorded that around 30,000 people have attended over the two days!
There’s a couple of different sections at Halal Food Fest. First there’s Sample City, which has most of the restaurant booths where you can sample different foods from the various stalls using the HFF tokens. Each booth has a mini version of their dishes so you can try out a little bit of everything. Then there are the stalls of various businesses where you can shop for clothes, hijabs, jewelry, t-shirts, you name it! There’s also the Main Stage, where they have performances from groups such as Mustaqeem and also cooking demonstrations! It’s really cool because it’s a live cooking show! Baker Amanda Saab was one of the guests this year! And lastly, on the outdoor grounds is the Street Fest, which features BBQ and many food vendors grilling up some yummy food! Many well known restaurants have their booths outside where you can have some of their famous dishes. There’s also a Kid Zone inside with inflatables and other games to keep the kids entertained!
The cool thing about Halal Food Fest is that new brands can debut there, even if they do not have their own location or are not formally established as of yet. One of such brands is Elchi Chai Shop! If you didn’t know, I actually was helping out at their booth on Sunday! Elchi Chai Shop is actually founded by two of my favourite cousins and a beautiful sister duo – Sukaina and Sayyeda! They are a chai and parotta shop and are hoping to open a store in August inshallah! I am so proud of all of their hard work and effort and all of the people at the booth this past weekend was proof of it! They made their own booth and everyone was complimenting its design and effort! They painted it with chalkboard paint, so the menu and other info was written along the walls.
For their debut weekend, they had their famous famous famous masala chai and chocolate chai! And for parottas, they had the beef parotta topped with coconut and tamarind chutney, and also the banana nutella parotta!
You HAVE to check them out on Instagram and Facebook to stay updated on their opening inshallah!
Another debut was by Gild Toronto and they make gourmet milkshakes and they are quite the deal! I had the cookie monster shake, which was a new addition on the Sunday and it was perfect for my Oreo obsession.
I also had this amazing Churro Cronut (Croissant-Donut) Ice Cream Sandwich by another debut brand, the Pastry Shop, and it was beyond AMAZING! So flaky and yummy! I shared this with many people haha, but almost wish I hadn’t 🙊
But of course, do you really think I’d just talk about Halal Food Fest without showing you my outfits from the two days?! Come on, this is still HijabiHeroes 😂
For Day 1, I wore this short sleeve maxi dress from Forever 21 that is the perfect sun dress for the Summer time! I paired it with a matching blue Dara Boutique hijab and my Azha Workshop necklace and it was done.
For Day 2, since I was helping at the Elchi Chai Shop booth, I had to wear a black top as my ‘uniform’. I ended up wearing a black maxi t-shirt with light wash jeans, but dressed it up by keeping my Dara Boutique black pearl abaya open as a maxi cardigan. It was super cute and I really liked how keeping the abaya open helped make the outfit chic yet casual and comfy! I then just wore a plain black hijab with pom pom poms for a sleek look.
Abaya – Dara Boutique
Maxi T-shirt – Zara
Jeans – Joe Fresh
Purse – H&M
Shoes – Primark
But of course, aside from the delicious food and shopping, my favourite part was meeting some of you guys!! Thank you so much for stopping me and saying hello! It was so heartwarming to know that you love HH and what it stands for. It was also proof to my family that HH is kinda cool LOL 😂😉
And to Ifrah, who I was supposed to take a picture with, I’m sorry we didn’t get to! 😟 But inshallah we will meet again soon!
That about sums it up for my #HFFTO16 experience! If you were at Halal Food Fest, what did you think?! Let me know in the comments!
Talk to you later!
